The Embedded Systems Conference Boston asked that the following announcement be passed along to the LinuxDevices.com community . . .

The East Coast's largest embedded exhibition and educational forum for embedded professionals, runs from September 4-7, 2001 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel and Hynes Convention Center. The conference program begins on Tuesday, September 4 with nine full-day tutorials and continues over the next three days with hour-and-a-half-long classes, including 20 entirely new sessions. The Embedded Systems Conference Boston provides an excellent opportunity to catch up on (and keep up with) the latest trends in hardware, software, and systems for building “smart devices.”

Running September 4-7, the event features an educational program with more than 80 classes and tutorials. It also includes an exhibition with more than 160 companies showing a broad range of innovative ICs, software tools, and systems for adding intelligence and connectivity, to everyday devices. The keynote speeches this year feature Clifford Stoll, a computer contrarian, and Michael Tiemann, chief technology officer of Red Hat.

Michael Tiemann, chief technology officer of Red Hat, delivers a keynote speech titled, “Open Source in Embedded: Dilemma of Delight?” on Thursday, September 6 at 12:30 p.m. In his speech, Tiemann will attempt to answer the embedded marketplace question: will Open Source software change the world of embedded systems, or will embedded systems bring about a change in Open Source software? Tiemann will discuss the recent increase of open source software in products and where he sees
this trend headed.

The other keynote speaker, Clifford Stoll, will deliver a speech titled, “Reflections of a Computer Contrarian,” on Wednesday, September 5 at 1:00 p.m. Stoll is expected to take a humorous and entertaining approach to a discussion about Internet “obsession” and the effects of too much technology on learning systems, libraries, and society.

The Embedded Systems Conference Boston also features a comprehensive educational program focused on the latest industry trends for embedded engineers, developers, and managers. With 84 classes and tutorials offering the latest design tips and techniques, the event allows embedded professionals to stay on top of industry issues and get answers to tough questions. Here is a list of some of the Open Source related classes. Refer to the full program, available online, for the entire list of classes at ESC Boston . . .
