Core 2 Duo box PC includes Firewire

Apr 11, 2011 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

Datasound Laboratories (DSL) announced a rebranded version of an Aplex-manufactured box PC, adding a Firewire port, SPDIF, and optional TV-out. The ACS-2625 Box PC is equipped to run an Intel Core 2 Duo processor at up to 2.33GHz, and offers up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, two PCI slots, CompactFlash and SATA storage, dual-display capability, plus Ethernet, USB 2.0, and serial connectivity, says the company.

The ACS-2625 Box PC is designed for applications in which intensive number crunching and advanced graphical multimedia capability are required, says DSL. The computer is based closely on a model of the same name offered by Aplex, but the DSL model adds Firewire and has slightly different I/O. (Links to both product pages are found at the end of the page.)

The ACS-2625's Socket 478 supports Intel Core 2 Duo processors running at up to 2.33GHz, says DSL. The computer also supports up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, offers a CompactFlash slot, and a 2.5-inch bay for hard disk drives, while a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive is optional, says DSL.

A VGA port is available, and the computer is said to support dual display with LVDS, which is presumably available via an internal connector. Dual PCI slots are available for expansion, says the company.

In addition to some minor differences between the DSL and Aplex versions of the box, there are some discrepancies between DSL's announcement, its ACS-2625 web-page, and its datasheet PDF. As usual, however, our spec list below is derived from the company's datasheet.

The ACS-2625, for example, offers dual Ethernet ports, which are listed as 10/100 ports in several places, while the datasheet says one of them is a 10/100/1000 gigabit model. The Aplex version, on the other hand, appears to have dual gigabit ports. In addition, there are either two or three serial ports, according to DSL, but the Aplex model offers three.

Both the DSL and Aplex versions offer four USB 2.0 ports, a PS/2 keyboard/mouse port, and basic audio I/O. The DSL version also offers an IEEE 1394 Firewire interface for high-speed media communications, an S/PDIF connector, and an optional TV output.

The steel-housed chassis includes a fan and ships with wall mounting, says DSL. The box is said to offer FCC, CE Class A EMC certification, and supports temperatures ranging from 32 to 140 deg. F (0 to 60 deg. C).

Features and specifications listed for the DSL ACS-2625 Box PC include:

  • Processor — Socket 478 for Intel Core 2 Duo @ up to 2.33GHz
