Free “Live CD” shows off Italian real-time embedded Linux

Jan 10, 2005 — by Henry Kingman — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

An Italian company selling real-time embedded Linux develpment toolkits for industrial applications is offering a freely downloadable live CD runtime. Koan Software Engineering's Klinux Live 2.0.0 CD does not include the real-time extensions or tools, but can help developers evaluate the operating system image, the company says.

Koan's Klinux 2.0.0 real-time operating system is based on kernel 2.4.26 or 2.6.10, with the RTAI real-time extensions. It supports processor families that include x86, ARM (XScale, AT91, Cirrus), and PPC. It also includes support for wxWidgets, and is available with the Anjuta IDE, debugging instruments, and configuration tools for Linux or uClinux kernels and filesystems.

The Klinux Live CD comprises a 20MB iso image file, which developers can freely download (no registration required) and burn onto a bootable CD. It uses the Grub 0.95 boot loader, and offers a choice of text mode, or framebuffer resolutions that include VGA, SVGA, or XGA. Minimum system requirements are:

  • Text mode: 386
  • Framebuffer mode: 486
  • RAM: 8/32MB
  • Disk: 8/32MB

Additional details, and a link to the download image, are available here.
