I/O-rich PC uses dual-core Atom

Advantech added to its range of “ARK” automation PCs with a model incorporating Intel's dual-core Atom D510. The ARK-6320-6M01E has eight USB ports, six serial ports, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, and a Mini PCI Express expansion slot, the company says.

Advantech says the ARK-6320-6M01E uses Intel's dual-core, 1.66GHz Atom D510, paired with the ICH8M I/O controller, and is built around a previously released Mini-ITX motherboard. No further background on the latter is specified, but we suspect the board might well be the AIMB-212 announced in January and covered by us at the time.

Whatever the case, the ARK-6320-6M01E accepts up to 2GB of DDR2 memory via a single SODOMM slot, has room for a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive, and sports both CompactFlash and Mini PCI Express slots, according to Advantech. The system also has an impressive number of ports, which include eight USB 2.0 ports (four in front, four in back), six serial ports (five RS232, one RS232/422/485), and two gigabit Ethernet ports.

Advantech says the ARK-6320-6M01E also has audio jacks (mic in, line in, line out), one digital I/O, and an external LVDS interface. A 802.11b/g wireless adapter is an optional extra, the company adds.

According to Advantech, the ARK-6320-6M01E runs Red Hat Fedora Core 9. The device is also said to be compatible with Windows XP Embedded, Windows XP, Windows CE 6.0, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
