Ibase announced an embedded Mini-ITX motherboard built around Intel's single-core Atom N450 or dual-core Atom D510. The MI889 offers a PCI Express x 4 expansion slot, two gigabit Ethernet ports, CRT and LVDS video outputs, plus both SATA and IDE support, the company says.

According to Ibase, its 6.7 x 6.7-inch MI889 will be offered with a long lifecycle, and is suitable for constructing RAID servers as well as a variety of embedded devices. The board comes with a choice of two 1.66GHz Atom processors, either the single-core N450 or the dual-core D510, both teamed with the ICH8-M I/O controller, the company says.

Both "Pineview" Atom processors offer integrated memory controllers and graphics cores, the latter clocked at 200MHz for the N450 and 400MHz for the D510, notes Ibase. Intel's graphics engine supports DirectX 9 and OpenGL 1.4, the company adds.

Ibase says the MI889 supports up to 2GB of DDR2 memory via a single SODIMM slot. Mass storage, meanwhile, is catered for by both an IDE connector and two SATA II ports, says the company.

Neither an edge-on photograph or a data sheet has as yet been provided by Ibase for this new Mini-ITX board, so we're unable to say which of the cited interfaces are provided with "real world" ports and which merely have headers. However, we'd guess the touted CRT output is via a standard VGA port, while the LVDS output is via a header.

According to Ibase, the MI889 has two gigabit Ethernet interfaces, four serial ports, and eight USB 2.0 ports. From the picture above, we'd guess the board has at least two DB9 serial connectors, and the device also appears to include 3.5mm audio outputs that the company's release did not mention.

Ibase says the MI889 also offers a PCI Express x4 expansion slot, a watchdog timer, and digital I/O. Operating system support was not mentioned, but should extend to just about any x86 OS.
