Lanner announced a 3.6-inch single board computer (SBC) built around the single-core, 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450. The VES-310 includes two gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 2.0 ports, digital I/O (four in, four out), and a CompactFlash slot, the company says.

The VES-310 uses the "3.5-inch" format that actually measures 5.7 x 4.1 inches, and it's said to operate fanlessly in temperatures ranging from 32 to 130 deg. F (0 to 60 deg. C), according to Lanner. The device employs Intel's 1.66GHz Atom N450, with on-chip graphics, and teams this with the usual ICH8M I/O controller.

According to Lanner, a SODIMM slot on the back of the board (below right) accepts up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, typical for such devices. Persistent storage, meanwhile, may be provided by either a CompactFlash slot, or an SATA port, the company adds.

As the photo above suggests, the VES-310's coastline features a 12VDC input, a VGA output, two USB 2.0 ports, and two gigabit Ethernet ports. Other I/O is provided by headers, and includes LVDS, two more USB ports, a parallel port, two serial ports (one RS232, one RS422/485), audio, and digital I/O (four in, four out).

Lanner says the board also includes a Mini PCI Express slot. Possible video resolutions were not specified, but we're presuming the device is capable of driving dual displays. (Using an identical chipset, the BCM NX510D Nano-ITX board we covered earlier today was rated for 1280 x 800 pixels on its LVDS output, and 1400 x 1050 pixels on its VGA output.)

According to Lanner, the VES-310 has a watchdog timer. It's said the board is compatible with Linux (Fedora and Fedora Core 8), as well as Windows XP Embedded, Windows XP, and Windows CE 6.0.
