LinuxWorld East, set for February 14-17 this year in Boston, has announced its lineup of keynote speakers. Speakers include representatives of Novell, HP, Computer Associates (CA), Attitude LLC, and MySQL AB.

The semi-annual LinuxWorld trade shows typically feature numerous embedded-related announcements, as evidenced by our Embedded LinuxWorld SuperGuide from the most recent event, held last August in San Francisco.

The keynote lineup for Boston's February, 2005 event features:

• Novell CEO Jack Messman will deliver the opening keynote, speaking on the topic of “Identity and Information.” Messman will highlight how Novell has tapped the power of identity services to accelerate its internal adoption of Linux, both in the data center and on the desktop.
• HP's VP of Linux, Martin Fink, will speak on “Making Open Source Work for You.” Fink's talk will also feature guest representatives of Fortune 500 companies attesting to Linux's power to solve business problems.
• CA's architect of open source strategy, Mark Barrenechea, will discuss CA's open source vision, and its release of the Ingres database under an open source license.
• Attitude LLC's president, John Patrick, will discuss “the future of the Internet and open technology,” along with key opportunities and potential limitations.
• Finally, MySQL CEO Marten Mickos will speak on “Fear & Loathing in Linux World: Commoditization, Commercialization and the Customer.” Mickos will explore how the transfer of power away from the traditional technology vendors into the hands of IT managers and programmers is impacting the software industry.

The 2005 LinuxWorld will also feature the “Golden Penguin Bowl,” a geek trivia game hosted by VA Linux founder Larry Augustin that promises to test the wits of distinguished Open Source personalities.
