Axiomtek has announced a “cost-effective, ultra-lowpower” mini-ITX motherboard it says is aimed at industrial, automation, and embedded applications. The SBC86822 has 600MHz or 1GHz Intel Celeron M processors, PCI expansion, eight USB ports, two gigabit Ethernet ports, and support for dual monitors.

The SBC86822 uses Intel's 910GMLE Express mobile chipset and ICH6-M southbridge. Its Socket 478 CPU connector accepts 600MHz or 1GHz Intel Celeron Ms, while dual 240-pin DIMM sockets allow up to 2GB of RAM.

The 910GMLE chipset's integrated graphics can share up to 128MB of the system memory as a framebuffer. The board supports dual monitors — a CRT with up to 2048 x 1536 resolution, and an LCD with up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. CRT output is via a VGA connector, while LVDS LCDs may be connected via a 40-pin header.

Standard PC connectors mounted on the board's edge include (shown at right, from left to right) PS/2 connectors for keyboard and mouse, three serial ports, the VGA output, four USB ports, two gigabit Ethernet ports, and audio mic in/line out. Interfaces using headers on the board itself include three additional serial ports, a floppy interface, four USB ports, a parallel port, and the LVDS output already mentioned. The board also features a PCI expansion slot, capable of accepting two PCI cards via a right-angled riser, according to Axiomtek.

Features and specifications listed by Axiomtek for the SBC86822 include:

  • Processor — 600MHz or 1GHz Celeron M processor
  • Memory — up to 2GB of RAM via dual 240-pin DIMM sockets
  • Display — supports CRT up to 2048 x 1536 resolution, LCD up to 1600 x 1200
  • Networking — 2 x 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports
  • Other I/O:
    • 8 x USB 2.0 (four external, four via headers)
    • 6 x RS232 (three external, three via headers)
    • VGA (external)
    • LVDS LCD display (header)

    • Floppy interface (via header)
    • 2 x SATA-150
    • Parallel (via header)
    • 2 x PS/2 for keyboard/mouse
    • Audio mic in, line out
  • Expansion — 2 PCI slots (via riser card)
  • Dimensions — 6.7 x 6.7 inches (170 x 170mm)
  • Operating temperature — 0 to 60 deg. C

Axiomtek did not specify operating system compatibility for the SBC86822. However, other products from the company have typically supported Linux, Windows XP Embedded, and Windows CE. The RoHS-compliant SBC86822 will be available at the end of April.
