MEN Micro announced a rugged box computer with a 1.5GHz AMD G-Series T52R processor and two gigabit Ethernet interfaces with M12 connectors. The “BC1” is equipped with 1GB of soldered DDR3 RAM, mSATA and SATA storage, and Mini PCI Express expansion, according to the company.

The 9.84 x 8.66 x 1.74-inch BC1 is designed for demanding environments that require dual displays, high-end graphics, and low power consumption, including railway and avionics applications, says MEN Micro. The computer is closely based on the SC24 single board computer (SBC) and AE51 extension board announced by the company in October.

The SC24 incorporates a backplane connector design based on FCI AirMax VS (Virtual Shield) connectors, including dual 72-pin graphics and I/O connectors. The AE51 extension board incorporated in the BC1 is the first of several planned extension boards that build upon this design. (For more details, see our earlier SC24 coverage.)

Like the foundational SC24, the BC1 is built around AMD's Radeon graphics-enabled AMD G-Series T52R processor, which offers a single core clocked to 1.5GHz and an 18-Watt TDP. However, the computer supports any G-Series processor, up to a dual-core, 1.65GHz T56N, says the company.

The BC1 comes with 1GB of soldered-on DDR3 SDRAM, and is also equipped with an SD card slot ready to accept a bundled 2GB card, says MEN Micro. Also available is an mSATA port, as well as a bay for an optional SATA hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD), says MEN Micro.

Dual Mini PCI Express slots are said to be available, each paired with a SIM card slot for wide area networking purposes. One of the Mini PCI slots can be switched between the two SIMs, leaving the second slot free for other purposes, the company adds.

The BC1's dual DisplayPorts can push out dual 2560 x 1600 pixel streams, says MEN Micro. The first port offers an auxiliary function, letting it optionally be configured for a USB connection to allow for touch functionality. The second port comes standard with a USB channel, says the company.

In addition to the DisplayPorts, other front-facing I/O includes dual gigabit Ethernet ports with ruggedized M12 connectors, as well as a USB 2.0 port, says MEN Micro. There are also dual "SA-Adapter" slots for serial I/O, and a multi-purpose audio port.

The fanless device supports temperatures ranging from -40 to 158 deg. F, with shock and vibration resistance as detailed in the spec table below. The BC1's power supply unit operates from 9-36 V, and can safely bridge the power supply for a few milliseconds in case of a power failure, says the company.

Operating system support is said to include Linux, Windows 7, and Windows Embedded Standard 7.
