Video controller PCs support up to a dozen 1080p inputs and outputs

Sep 23, 2011 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 10 views

Trenton announced a pair of Matrox-validated video controller PCs, sporting Xeon processors up to a quad-core, 2.53GHz model. The TVC3400 supports one or two Matrox Mura MPX cards with up to eight 1080p inputs and eight more 1080p outputs, while the TVC4400 supports up to three Mura MPX cards for up to 12 1080p inputs and outputs, with shelf and wall-mountable options available for each.

The TVC3400 and TVC4400 bring shelf- and wall-mountable options to Trenton's line of "Matrox-validated" video controllers, says Trenton. The systems are said to be suitable for video-intensive digital signage, corporate boardroom, and manufacturing process control room environments where rackmounts are not an option. The systems will "overachieve on any small- to mid-sized video wall installation," promises the company.

The TVC3400 and TVC4400 are designed to house two or three Matrox Graphics Mura MPX boards, respectively. The Mura MPX boards are aimed primarily at display-wall applications, and offer video capture, processing, and I/O functionality.

The TVC3400 supports one or two Matrox Mura MPX cards for up to eight 1080p inputs and eight 1080p outputs, while the TVC4400 supports up to three Mura MPX cards for up to 12 1080p inputs and outputs, says Trenton. Each system supports up to 64Gbps duplex data transfer rates "to ensure flawless HD input capture," says the company.

The controllers incorporate a long-life, MicroATX form factor Trenton JXMS7031 motherboard, says the company. The board can be equipped with Intel Xeon EC5500 processors ranging from a dual-core, 2.27GHz Xeon EC5539 to a quad-core, 2.53GHz EC5549, says Trenton.

The processors, board, and computers are said to be available with seven-year embedded product lifecycle support. (For more information on the JXMS7031, including a block diagram, see our earlier JXMS7031 coverage.)

Expansion is supported via a PCI Express (PCIe) x16 slot and an x8 slot on the TVC3400, says Trenton. The TVC4400 supports dual PCIe x8 slots as well as a third slot that supports PCIe x16. Both systems also supply a single PCI slot too.

The TVC4400 design uses a smaller footprint but a taller chassis height to eliminate the need for a riser card, says Trenton (see dimensions in the spec list below). Both systems provide a choice of a single 3.5-inch or dual 2.5-inch front-access, hot-swap SATA drive carriers, says the company. A slim-line optical drive bay is also provided.

Dual gigabit Ethernet ports are provided, along with six USB 2.0 ports, with two of those facing front, says Trenton. A DVI-I port, and PS/2 ports are also available.
