Signage PC has 21.5-inch HD display

Ibase Technology announced a 21.5-inch panel PC designed for digital signage applications. The SPPC-2200 offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a 250-nit brightness rating, includes a 2.2GHz AMD Turion II Neo N54H, has a 2.5-inch drive tray, and provides a DVI-I video output, according to the company.

Ibase shows the SPPC-2000 running Windows XP, but does not list operating system support. Certainly, the x86-based AMD Turio II chip should be able to run Linux just fine.

According to Ibase, the SPPC-2200 provides a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, offers a 250-nit brightness rating, and has accelerated video playback for digital signage applications. The device is not fitted with an touchscreen, but the company cites an optional "touch window and CCD for interactive function" without providing further information.

Just 1.57 inches thick, the SPPC-2200 contains a previously released "disk size" SBC (single board computer), the IB889 (PDF datasheet). This device made its debut last year with a choice of two embedded-specific processors from AMD:

  • the Athlon II Neo N36L, with dual cores, a 1.3GHz clock speed, and a 12-Watt TDP
  • the Turion II Neo N54H, with dual cores, a 2.2GHz clock speed, and a 25-Watt TDP

For the SPPC-2200, Ibase is specifying only the 2.2GHz CPU, while the SBC also contains AMD's 785E northbridge and SB520M southbridge. The 785E provides integrated Radeon 4200 graphics, with DirectX 10.1 compatibility and hardware-accelerated playback of VC-1 and H.264 video formats, according to the chipmaker.

Ibase doesn't cite any wireless networking for the SPPC-2200, though we note the IB889 has a Mini PCI Express slot that, if it's at all accessible here, could be used to add such a capability. Meanwhile, the device's dual-link DVI-I video output (said to support resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 pixels), two gigabit Ethernet ports, and four USB 2.0 ports derive directly from the IB889's coastline.

According to Ibase, the SPPC-2200 has a removable tray (above) for a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive. An I/O protection cover that can hide the bottom of the panel PC as well as any associated cables is optionally available, the company adds.

Features and specifications listed by Ibase for the SPPC-2200 include:

  • Processor — AMD Turion II Neo N54H clocked at 2.2GHz
  • Memory — up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM via single SODIMM slot
  • Display — 21.5-inch LCD with 1920 x 1080 resolution and 250-nit brightness
  • Storage — 2.5-inch drive bay

  • Networking — 2 x gigabit Ethernet
  • Other I/O:
    • 1 x dual-link DVI-I
    • 4 x USB 2.0
  • Power — 60W AC adapter
