Little signage PC offers dual-core CPU, HD video
Mar 18, 2011 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsIbase announced a compact digital signage PC with a dual-core AMD G-Series processor and a DVI-I output. Providing hardware video acceleration, the SI-18 has a 1.6GHz T56N processor, up to 2GB of RAM and 1TB of disk storage, gigabit Ethernet and a serial port, and a Mini PCI slot for optional Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, the company says.
Ibase's SI-18 measures just 4.9 x 4.9 x 1.4 inches, and, while it's recommended for digital signage applications, would seem to be useful in a home theater setting as well. That's because its AMD T56N processor — one of the first five G-Series devices AMD has aimed at embedded devices — includes a graphics processing unit with DirectX 11 and HD video compatibility.

The T56N, featuring dual cores and a 1.6GHz clock speed, uses 18 Watts, according to AMD. The SI-18 teams its processor from 2GB to 4GB of DDR3 memory, and a 2.5-inch hard disk drive that's offered in capacities from 160GB to 1TB, says Ibase.
According to Ibase, the SI-18 has a DVI-I port that, with appropriate adapters, can support DVI, VGA, or HDMI displays (maximum resolutions not listed). It also includes two USB 2.0 ports, a gigabit Ethernet port, and a serial port that itself employs an RJ45 connector, the company adds.
Internal expansion is said to be present in the form of a Mini PCI Express slot. This is intended primarily for an optional Wi-Fi or Bluetooth adapter, Ibase says.
Ibase makes no claim that the SI-18 can run fanlessly, and its aluminum case appears to have ventilation holes to admit cooling air. The company does specify that the device consumes a maximum of 25 Watts and operates in temperatures ranging from 32 to 133 deg. F.
