Asian partnership targets Internet appliance makers
Dec 13, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsTaipei, Taiwan — (press release excerpt) — ROAD (a Japanese chipset company) and Esfia (a Taiwan-based embedded Linux solutions provider) have formed a strategic partnership that will target Asian Internet appliance manufacturers. The product of the alliance is a software package called “Linux Total Solutions for Multimedia Internet Appliance.” The package combines Esfia's RedBlue Linux (an Embedded… Linux operating system optimized for Internet appliance applications) with the Netscape web browser, plus Real Player and Macromedia Flash plugins. Esfia-developed support for ROAD's MR1 graphics chipset, including MP3, video editing, and low-level device drivers, is also included in order to provide full support for multimedia peripherals and display. The marketing effort in Asia of the Linux Total Solution for Multimedia Internet Appliance is to be lead by Esfia.
