Aewin is shipping an ETX 3.0-compliant computer module, along with an associated ATX form-factor development baseboard. Targeting gaming devices, the CM-7100 module supports an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, and offers up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, dual SATA interfaces, and dual CRT/LVDS displays, says Aewin.

The CM-7100, which is said to be pin-to-pin compatible with its previous ETX modules, is designed primarily for gaming devices, but is also applicable to medical, human machine interface (HMI), and digital signage applications, says Aewin. Like the Aaeon ETX-CX700M module announced last week, which uses a Via CX700M, the Aewin CM-7100 complies with the ETX 3.0 format, which means that while it has sprouted two SATA ports, its main connectors remain compatible with any ETX carrier board. ETX 3.0 also maintains the same 4.5 x 3.7 inch dimensions of the original ETX format, which was introduced by Jumptec and later acquired by Kontron.

The Aewin CM-7100 incorporates an Intel 965GMCH+ICH8M chipset, as well as a socket that accepts Intel Core 2 Duo processors. The module may be purchased with up to 2GB of DDR2 533/667MHz memory for its single 200-pin SODIMM socket, says Aewin.

The Intel GME965-driven graphics engine is said to support CRT display modes of up to 2048 x 1536 pixels, as well as LCD displays of up to 1024 x 768. The CM-7100 offers an 18-bit LCD interface, and supports dual-channel 18/24-bit LVDS for dual displays.

In addition to the dual SATA connectors for storage, the RoHS-compliant module provides PCI and ISA expansion interfaces, says Aewin. Additional I/O includes an Ethernet interface, four USB 2.0 ports, two EIDE interfaces, two RS-232 serial interfaces, a floppy disk connector, and IrDA, says the company.

Availability

The CM-7100 module and BB107 ATX baseboard are available now at an undisclosed price, says Aewin. The company did not disclose operating system support, but with its standard x86 parts, Linux and Windows are likely to be supported.
