Lanner announced a mid-range digital signage player with remote power activation support and a dual-core, 1.8GHz Intel Atom D525 featuring remote p. The fanless LEC-7105 supports up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, features dual display via VGA and DVI outputs, offers an eSATA port as well as internal SATA and CompactFlash storage, and provides gigabit Ethernet, USB, and serial connections.

The LEC-7105 (pictured) is designed for digital signage and other industrial applications, says Lanner. The computer uses the same 10.55 x 6.85 x 1.73-inch chassis as last year's LEC-7900D, and offers many of the same features.

Instead of pairing an Nvidia MCP79A-LP graphics processing unit with a variety of Core 2 Duo or Celeron M processors, however, the LEC-7105 instead goes with the dual-core Intel Atom D525 (1.8GHz), which offers its own onboard graphics. This low-power Atom processor also lets the system run without a fan.

The LEC-7105 supports up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, and offers a CompactFlash slot, according to Lanner. As before, there's a 2.5-inch bay for SATA storage, and the device supports solid state drives (SSDs) as well as hard disk drives (HDDs).

One key new feature is an external eSATA port with its own +5V power source, supporting speeds of up to 3GB/sec. Like the earlier model, the LEC-7105 offers dual Mini PCI Express slots, one of which now offers a SIM card reader for options like 3G and GPS, says Lanner.

External I/O is split fairly evenly between the front and back panels, as shown in the image above. Dual gigabit Ethernet ports are provided, as well as four USB 2.0 ports, with two more USB 2.0 interfaces available internally, according to the company. Both RS232 and RS232/422/485 ports are available externally.

The system provides both VGA and DVI-D ports, along with dual display capability, says Lanner. RCA audio I/O and a DIO terminal block are also said to be available.

The LEC-7105 can withstand temperatures of 23 to 113 deg. F, and is said to be dustproof, although no compliance details are offered on the latter point. The computer provides both a screw lock power plug for a more secure connection, as well as a special terminal block connector that supports an optional wired remote power control device, says the company.

Operating system support is said to include Linux, Windows 7, Windows XP Professional, Windows Embedded Standard 7, and Windows Embedded Standard 2009.
