Fanless box PC is DIN rail-mountable
May 26, 2011 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 viewsU.K. distributor Datasound Laboratories (DSL) announced a fanless box PC that accepts power ranging from 11 to 32VDC and can be mounted on DIN rails. The RoHS-compliant ACS-2210 has a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, CompactFlash and Mini PCI slots, and room for a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive, according to the company.
Though brought to our attention by DSL, the ACS-2210 (right) is a product of Taiwan-based Aplex Technology, which lists the same features and specifications for the device that Datasound does. These include a Mini PCI expansion slot, a CompactFlash slot, and a 2.5-inch bay for hard disk drives.
Intel has now released 42 different Atom processors and several Atom-based systems on chip (that's this week's tally, at least). Aplex appears to be working through a mountain of 1.6GHz N270 CPUs, however, and here combines that particular Atom with the 945GSE northbridge and ICH7M southbridge (just as it did on the APC-3×14 panel PCs we covered on May 20 ).
This chipset is capable of addressing up to 2GB of RAM in most cases, but Aplex says the ACS-2210 accepts up to 1GB of memory via a single SODIMM slot. A power input on the left side of the DIN rail-mountable PC accepts DC ranging from 11 to 32 Volts, while all of the device's other inputs and outputs reside on its front panel.
According to Aplex, the ACS-2210 offers two gigabit Ethernet ports with RJ45 connectors, two serial ports (one RS232, one RS232/422/485), four USB 2.0 ports, and a PS/2 port to which a keyboard and mouse may be connected. The PC also has a VGA output (potential resolutions not cited) and line-level audio I/O, the company adds.
Operating system support on the ACS-2210 is explicitly said to include Windows XP, Windows XP Pro, or Windows XP Embedded; but we know, of course, that with this particular chipset devices can also run Linux or even be "Hackintoshed." Operating temperature can range from 32 to 122 deg. F, Aplex adds.
Specifications provided by Aplex and DSL for the ACS-2210 include:
