Taiwanese board vendor Acrosser has started shipping a new fanless, “half-size” ISA board targeting industrial automation, security, and communications applications. The AR-B1572 is based on an AMD GX466 embedded processor, runs Linux or Windows, and has integrated graphics, sound, and PC-style I/O.

The AR-B1572 is essentially a full PC on a card designed to plug into an ISA (industry standard architecture) “passive backplane,” with no processing capabilities of its own. Using such a backplane, the AR-B1572 can be expanded using standard ISA-bus PC plug-in cards.

Touted AR-B1572 features and specs include:

  • Processor — AMD GX466 processor, clocked at 333MHz
  • Memory:
    • 128MB of soldered-on DDR SDRAM for ruggedness
    • SODIMM socket for SDRAM expansion
    • 512KB battery-backed SRAM
  • Storage — Ultra-DMA 33/66 interface and CompactFlash slot on shared IDE channel
  • Video:
    • CRT up to 1600x1200x16 bps and 1280x1024x24 bps
    • LCD up to 1280x1024x24 bps
  • Audio — AC97 digital audio controller with audio in/out connectors
  • LAN — 10/100 Ethernet Mac and Phy
  • Other I/O ports:
    • high-speed RS-232C/422/485 serial port
    • standard RS-232C serial port
    • 4 USB 2.0 ports
  • PC/104 expansion connector
  • Supports power, voltage, and CPU temperature monitoring
  • RoHS compliant
  • Size — 7.3 x 4.8 inches (185 x 122 mm)

The AR-B1572 supports Red Hat, Mandrake, and “Caldara” Linux, according to Acrosser. Other supported OSes include Windows CE, XP, NT/2000, and 98.

The AR-B1572 appears to be available now. Pricing was not disclosed.
