Axiomtek recently launched a new single-board computer (SBC) aimed at performance-intensive networking and storage applications. The SBC86804 can be populated with Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron D processors, and integrates four S-ATA channels plus four gigabit Ethernet ports. It runs Linux, among other embeddedOSes.

The board, which measures 16.8 x 11.8 inches, is expected to be used in network-attached storage devices, industrial embedded applications, and network security appliances such as VPN and IDS/IPS appliances (virtual private network and intrusion detection/prevention systems), Axiomtek said.

The company lists the following key features and functions for the SBC88604:

• Processor — Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron D
• Memory — 4 DIMM sockets, for up to 8 GB of DDR SDRAM
• Drive interfaces:
  1 ATA-100 interface
  • 4 SATA I channels
  • floppy interface
• Four gigabit Ethernet ports
• Other I/O:
  • PS/2 keyboard/mouse
  • 8 USB 2.0 ports
  • RS232 serial port
  • parallel port
• Expansion:
  • 32-bit/33MHz PCI slots
  • 1 32-bit Mini PCI socket
  • CompactFlash socket

In addition to Red Hat Linux, the board supports Windows 2000 and XP, and Windows XP Embedded, according to the company.

Availability

The SBC86804 will be available later this month, Axiomtek said.
