American Megatrends Inc. (AMI) announced Indium, a small form-factor Server Appliance board that fits within a standard half-height 5.25-inch drive bay. Multiple Indium boards can fit in a 1U rack mount chassis. The Indium Server Appliance board is basically a single-board computer in a 5.5″ x 8.5″ format, with onboard CPU, memory, dual-Ethernet, dual-USB, dual-SCSI ports, dual-serial, a VGA CRT/LCD… controller, and one IDE channel. Either a Celeron or Pentium III CPU plugs into the board's “Socket 370”, which can support processors of up to 600 MHz clock speed. Core logic is provided by an Intel 810E. Linux OS support for the AMI Indium board is available from ApplianceWare, via a new version of their Linux-based Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution. The ApplianceWare NAS software features the capability of automatic device discovery and multi-appliance management, plus a high level of ease-of-use.
