Axiomtek announced a digital signage computer that includes a 42-inch display and a choice of Celeron or Core 2 Duo processors. The DSA-142 features a removable CPU board, an optional motion detection sensor and available infrared touchscreen, a Mini PCI Express expansion slot, up to 2GB of DDR3 RAM, an 80GB hard disk drive, and two speakers, the company says.

According to Axiomtek, its 42-inch DSA-142 is designed to be installed in public and commercial spaces, conveying information such as advertising, news, and information, and can be operated around the clock. A built-in sensor adjusts the device's LCD to match ambient lighting, while an optional motion detection sensor allows backlighting to be switched on in response to foot traffic, the company adds.

Axiomtek says the fanless device employs a removable CPU board, making configuration and maintenance simpler. If this sounds familiar, it's because the company touted a similar arrangement for the somewhat-larger, 46-inch DSA-146 it announced in January. Since then, Axiomtek also released the DSA-200 (below), a slimline PC that appears to offer the same board but is designed to hang on the back of separately available monitors.

Like the above-mentioned products, the DSA-142 uses Intel's GM45 mobile chipset, supporting the installation of 2.0GHz Celeron M 575 or 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo T9400 processors, according to Axiomtek. The PC has two SODIMM slots and accepts up to 2GB of DDR3 RAM, the company adds.

The DSA-142 offers 1920 x 1080 resolution (for HD video compatibility), a 1500:1 contrast ratio, a 500-nit brightness rating, and two speakers with four-Watt amplifiers. An infrared touchscreen is an available option, Axiomtek says.

According to Axiomtek, the DSA-142 has an 80GB hard disk drive and a Mini PCI Express expansion slot that may be used to add 802.11 wireless networking. Wired connectors include a gigabit Ethernet port, VGA and DVI video outputs, and four USB 2.0 ports, the company adds.

The image reproduced earlier in our story implies that Axiomtek also offers a webcam for the DSA-142. However, no information was provided regarding this accessory.
