Ibase announced a fanless barebone computer equipped with a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7-620M CPU. The AMI200-953 comes with 4GB DDR3 memory, a 40GB hard disk, dual Ethernet ports, eight USB ports, a serial port, plus DVI-I, DVI-D, and VGA ports with dual display capability, says the company.

The AMI200-953 is designed for space-constrained multimedia, digital signage, automation, and medical applications, says Ibase. The "barebone" system, which means a device that ships without an operating system preinstalled, is likely to support Linux, Windows, or any other operating system compatible with the Intel Core family.

The AMI200-953 is built around Ibase's MI953AF Mini-ITX motherboard, apparently a slightly scaled down cousin of the MI957 (which supported Intel's 2.53GHz Core i7-610E or 2.13GHz Core i3-330E processors). The MI953AF, which supports half the memory allotment of the MI957, at 4GB DDR3, more generally supports any of the "Nehalem" Core i7 or Core i5 processors that shipped in Jan. 2010 except for the i3 models.

Last month, Ibase announced a MI956F Mini-ITX board that supports the new "Sandy Bridge" generation of Core processors.

The AMI200-953 system appears to be available with either 2.66GHz Intel Core i7-620M or 2.4GHz Core i5-520M processors with a 40GB, 2.5-inch "industrial-grade" hard disk drive (HDD), says Ibase. I/O is rather confusingly detailed, but based in part on the photos and the Mini-ITX board's capabilities, we feel confident in the spec list below. Two USB 2.0 ports are available facing front, and it appears there are six more USB ports facing to the rear, along with dual RJ45 ports, which we assume extend the motherboard's gigabit Ethernet capability.

Other rear-facing I/O includes a DVI-D, DVI-I, and VGA port, any two of which can be selected for dual-display operation. There is also a serial port, a PS/2 port, a three-way audio port, and a DC-in jack, says the company. Additional interfaces, as well as PCIe expansion are available internally, but are not listed as features of the AMI200-95 itself, and may or may not be accessible.

The silver aluminum chassis measures 9.13 x 7.83 x 2.5 inches (232 x 199 x 63.4mm) and can sit on a desktop or be wall mounted, says Ibase. The fanless box includes front panel lights and buttons, and is powered by an 80 Watt power adapter.

The computer supports operating temperatures between 32 and 113 deg. F, and provides varying degrees of vibration resistance, depending on whether the HDD is swapped out for a solid state drive (SSD), says Ibase.
