An annual Linux user's conference in Southern California will feature lots of presentations about embedded Linux and Linux devices. Set for Feb. 8-10 at the Los Angeles Airport, the Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE) will feature talks on Linux in medical devices, Linux-based network computing, Linux in phones, and more.

The event appears to have attracted lots of medical presenters, who will discuss open source medical software and services such as OpenEMR, OpenClinica, OpenMRS, ClearHealth, Mirth, and others. Mixed in with general desktop topics and server presentations, there will also be presentations on:

• Open source network computing packages such as LTSP (Linux terminal server project)
• Open source telephony packages such as Asterisk
• High-availability capabilities in OpenBSD
• Linux momentum in mobile
• KnoppMyth
• OSGI and other embedded operating environments
• FireAnt, a project to port the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC) middleware client to ARM Linux

Additionally, the event's vendor expo features several Linux device companies, including OpenMoko, the open Linux phone company, and Enlightenment, an open source project whose “lightweight” window manager is used in gOS, the Google-oriented distribution in Everex's forthcoming Cloudbook and the $200 Walmart Linux PC.
