Eclipse project’s C/C++ milestone should help embedded developers

The Eclipse consortium's C/C++ Development Tools (CDT) project announced the release of CDT 1.0, which includes a full-featured C/C++ development environment and debugger. Support for C and C++ in Eclipse — an open-source development tools framework — now rivals that for Java, which was the initially supported programming language when the project was launched by IBM, the group said. Integrated Device Technology (IDT) announced the availability of a royalty-free embedded Linux OS and toolkit for its Interprise family of integrated communications processors. Bluetooth 1.1 stack supports Linux-based devices

Stonestreet One and MontaVista Software announced that they are teaming up to provide Bluetooth support for embedded Linux based device designs in the consumer, automotive, aerospace, industrial, and medical device markets. The Bluetooth support comes in the form of Bluetopia, a BQB qualified Bluetooth protocol stack, which has been ported to many operating systems, including Linux, Stonestreet said. (more…)

First word of second coming of Fujitsu Linux-powered robot

Fujitsu's Linux-based HOAP-1 robot appears to have been reincarnated as HOAP-2, according to a report at The Register. The new model looks a lot like the earlier one, and is reportedly powered by a 700 MHz Intel Pentium III running a real-time version of Linux (presumably RTLinux). (more…)

Big blue’s new storage controller runs “Little Blue Linux”

IBM has developed a new Linux-powered storage controller capable of managing two petabytes of data, according to an article at ZDNet UK. The device, called the TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller (SVC), reportedly runs an embedded Linux operating system called Little Blue, which IBM derived from SuSE Linux. (more…)
