SSV has added optional WiFi and GSM/GPRS networking to a small industrial PC targeting M2M (machine-to-machine) applications. The Com/PC is available with a Pentium M or Geode processor, runs Linux or Windows, and targets remote maintenance, tank field monitoring, telemetry, and POS/vending machine… applications.

SSV's Com/PC line includes two models:

• Com/PC1-1100, based on a Pentium M processor clocked at 1.1GHz
• Com/PC1-800, based on an AMD Geode LX800 clocked at 533MHz

Both offer 10 serial ports (COM1-COM10), four USB ports, both 10/100 Mbps and 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet ports, dual mini-PCI slots, and a pair of “multi-I/O” expansion slots supporting several available modem modules and fieldbus cards, the company said.

SSV's Com/PCs run Linux from an internal CompactFlash card. The OS includes SSL, SSH, and OpenVPN, making the systems suitable for transferring sensitive information, SSV said.

Alternatively, the units can be supplied with Windows XP Embedded running from the CompactFlash card, or Windows XP Professional booting from an added 2.5-inch hard drive.

The Com/PC appears to be available now with WiFi and various ISDN/GSM/GPRS modem modules optionally available. Pricing was not disclosed.
