Industrial touch-panel thin client runs Linux
Feb 19, 2008 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 4 viewsGerman embedded equipment vendor Noax Technologies has introduced an embedded Linux thin client panel PC designed for harsh industrial environments. The fully sealed, IP65-compliant C8 ITC is based on a 400MHz Intel Celeron processor, and offers an 8.4-inch TFT display with integrated touch panel.

The C8 ITC is designed for extreme industrial conditions, says the company. Suggested uses include mounting on forklift trucks, order picking vehicles, or construction machinery.
The system is controlled by a terminal server via a wired or wireless network connection, permitting a client to switch to Linux even when accessing Windows applications, the company says. Supported network computing protocols include Tarantella, NoMachine NX, and LTSP/K12LTSP, as well as IBM Host Access thin client and caching proxy technologies.
The C8 ITC has bottom-mounted connectors
The C8 ITC comes with 128MB of RAM and 128MB of flash, upon which the system's Noax ITC Linux distribution is pre-installed. The 9.1 x 7.3 x 3.9-inch system weighs 8.3 pounds and is housed in a robust aluminum casing that is fully sealed and IP65-compliant. The 800×600 touchscreen display comes with automatic brightness controls and touch panel controls.
