Habey USA announced a mini-ITX board combining a dual-core Intel Atom D510 with an Nvidia Ion 2 GPU. Supporting 1080p video and simultaneous HDMI/VGA displays, the MITX-6564 has up to 4GB of RAM, mini-PCIe expansion, plus USB 2.0, SATA, and gigabit Ethernet connectivity, the company says.

The MITX-6564 is designed for HD media player applications, kiosks, digital signage, point of sale (POS) systems, and other embedded applications demanding high-performance graphics, says Habey. Although based on the mini-ITX form-factor, the board is slightly smaller than is typical, at 6.5 inches square instead of 6.7 inches. It is also touted for measuring less than an inch high, making it ideal for space-constrained devices.

Nvidia announced its second-generation Ion GPU, informally referred to as the Ion 2, in December of last year. The Ion 2 upgraded the original Ion design with support for Intel's Pine Trail Atoms such as the dual-core, 1.66GHz D510 offered with the MITX-6564.

Although the Pine Trail Atoms are known for bringing graphics onboard instead of depending on a secondary graphics chipset, there are graphics, and then there are graphics. Nvidia claims the Ion 2 offers a 10x improvement in graphics performance over a Pine Trail Atom's integrated graphics.

The Ion 2 supports DirectX 10, offers resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 pixels, and provides 1080p HD video playback, says Nvidia. The GPU also delivers HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, and dual-link DVI video outputs.

The Ion 2 supports DDR3 memory interfaces with frontside bus speeds of up to 1066MHz. Here, the chip is offered in the form of a Nvidia GeForce GT218 module that has its own dedicated allotment of 512MB DDR3 memory. The system is equipped with HDMI and VGA ports, and supports simultaneous dual monitor displays, says Habey.

The MITX-6564 may be equipped with up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, says Habey. The board lacks CompactFlash support, but offers dual internal SATA II ports supporting either a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD) drive. There are also dual PCI Express (PCIe) slots for wireless and TV tuner options, says the company.

Additional wireless and storage expansion is available via six USB 2.0 ports, two of them available as external ports. Other connectivity includes serial and gigabit Ethernet ports and various audio ports, including an S/PDIF port (see spec table below).

Equipped with a 12V DC supply, the MITX-6564 typically consumes 21 Watts, says Habey. The board supports Linux, as well as a variety of Windows options.

Habey offers three embedded computers based on the MITX-6564, with one of them, the ENT-6564 (pictured at right) available now on Amazon for $330. This ultra-slim "media player/nettop" is equipped with 2G DDR2 RAM and a 250GB HDD, and ships with a Wi-Fi card. The ENT-6564 is available for resellers, system integrators, and major online retailers, says Habey.

BIS-6564

The BIS-6564 (pictured above) is a fanless, barebone system based on the MITX-6564. The device uses Habey's proprietary ICEFIN thermal design, says the company.

EPC-6564

Finally, Habey offers an EPC-6564 (pictured above). This 1U short-depth computer offers slim DVD/BD drive support. As with the BIS-6564, this model is available for OEM projects.
