Networking appliance expands to 14 gigabit ports

Win Enterprises is readying a 1U rackmount networking appliance that supports a variety of Intel processors up to a Core 2 Quad. The PL-80230 supports up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, and offers CompactFlash and SATA storage, six to 14 gigabit Ethernet ports, USB and serial ports, and PCIe, mini-PCI, and PCI expansion, says the company.

The PL-80230 is similar to last year's PL-80140, but with no PCI/PCIe expansion or networking expansion beyond six gigabit ports. Like the PL-80140, this updated networking appliance is equipped with an LGA775 socket supporting Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual-core, or Celeron D processors, says Win Enterprises. Two unbuffered and non-ECC DDR3 800/1066MHz DIMM sockets are said to provide up to 4GB memory.

The PL-80230 offers numerous expansion opportunities, starting with a CompactFlash slot and a 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drive (HDD) bay. In addition to offering a PCI Express (PCIe) x8 slot, the PL-80230 also provides a mini PCI socket and a PCI expansion slot, says the company.

The PL-80230 comes standard with six gigabit Ethernet ports, but can expand to 14 copper or fiber ports, all front facing, says Win Enterprises. Additional I/O is said to include dual USB 2.0 ports, an RJ-45 console port, and a pin header for COM2.
