Atom-based box PC offers both PCI and PCI Express expansion

Dec 14, 2011 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 views

Axiomtek announced a four-slot, fanless PC equipped with a single-core D425 Intel Atom or dual-core D525, each clocked to 1.8GHz. The IPC924-212-FL supports up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, provides a choice of four PCI slots or two PCI slots, one PCI Express x16, and one PCI Express x1 slots, and offers CompactFlash, SATA, gigabit Ethernet, USB, and serial connectivity.

The IPC924-212-FL offers the same wall-mountable, industrial shoebox design as Axiomtek's recent IPC914-211-FL, IPC916-211-FL, and IPC922-212-FL. In fact, it's essentially identical to the latter except for supplying more slots and different expansion options.

IPC924-212-FL

Like the IPC922-212-FL, the computer is built around Axiomtek's SHB212 PICMG SBC. The SHB212 can be fitted with the single-core Intel Atom D425 or dual-core D525, each of which are clocked to 1.8GHz. Also like the IPC922-212-FL, the IPC924-212-FL supports up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, provides a CompactFlash slot, and has a 2.5-inch hard disk drive (HDD) bay.

But whereas the earlier model offered several different PCI Express (PCIe) configurations, the IPC924-212-FL provides just two. The HAB104 model features four PCI slots, while the HAB105 model offers dual PCI slots, one PCI Express x1 slot, and one PCI Express x16 slot.

Beyond that, the I/O is identical. A gigabit Ethernet port is joined by six USB 2.0 ports, four serial ports, and a VGA port. (For more details, see the spec list below, as well as our earlier IPC922-212-FL coverage.)

Compared to the IPC922-212-FL, the new model offers a slightly larger built-in 10V~30VDC, 150 Watt DC-to-DC power supply in addition to once again supporting AC adapter input. Unlike the earlier model, the IPC924-212-FL adds Phoenix or DC din-jack power connector plugs, says the company.

Specifications listed by Axiomtek for the IPC924-212-FL include the following:

  • Processor — Intel Atom D425 or Atom D525 @ 1.8GHz
