Small, rugged system targets specialized apps

The Model 9100 initially supports Intel Pentium M and Core Duo processors, provides integrated WiFi, and features EMI-shielded connectors and a protective front cover, according to… the company.
The Model 9100 will initially be offered with a choice of a 1.8 GHz Pentium M or a 1.66GHz Core Duo processor, along with 1 GB of DDR SDRAM and a 60 GB, 2.5-inch hard drive. Interfaces are provided for 10/100 Ethernet LAN, dual USB 2.0, dual RS232 serial ports, high-performance 3D-accelerated graphics, an SMA connector for WiFi wireless, and audio in/out.

The compact (5.75 x 9.85 x 1.75 inches) system is designed with ruggedized, circular, EMI-compliant connectors, and has a cover that protects its front-panel buttons and connectors from environmental factors. Optional mounting flanges provide for vertical or horizontal mounting.
According to Datametrics, the system has been validated for compatibility with Red Hat Linux 9, Fedora Linux 5, Windows XP, and Windows XP Embedded. Additionally, the unit is “Windows Vista ready,” a spokesperson said.
Availability
The Model 9100 is expected to ship during Q1. It was showcased at a recent National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) trade show, positioned as an electronic flight bag computer, according to the company. Pricing with a Pentium M 1.8GHz processor starts at $2000.
