Software simplifies clustered computer management

SST unveils “industry’s first 32-pin ATA Flash chips”

SST (Silicon Storage Technology, Inc.) has announced a new Flash storage option for the embedded market, the ATA-Disk Chip (ADC), which the company claims represents the industry's first ATA Flash drive in a common 32-pin DIP IC package. Since the ADC mimics normal IDE drives, from both a hardware and software perspective, designing embedded Linux systems with it should be simple. (more…)

Speech comes to the web

SpeechWorks International, Inc. (Boston, MA) has announced an initiative called the Open Speech Web, aimed at creating a speech-based implementation of the World Wide Web. The proposed network of interconnected speech services will allow consumers to “speech-surf” or to connect to speech-aware applications simply by speaking commands into a telephone or Internet-enabled audio input device. Yellow Dog embraces RTLinux

Terra Soft Solutions and FSMLabs have announced that RTLinux for PowerPC will be included in the next release of Terra Soft's Black Lab Linux distribution, and also in future releases of Champion Server. RTLinux adds hard realtime capabilities to Linux, allowing Linux to reliably control machines, robots, data acquisition devices, telecommunications switches, and other systems having precise timing… (more…)

Free simulator enables desktop debug of RTLinux apps

CarbonKernel.org has announced CarbonKernel 1.2, a GPL-released real-time operating system (RTOS) API simulator that includes the first public release of a simulation model mimicking RTLinux, the popular real-time Linux add-on.
